IMPORTANT: if your child is sick, they need to stay home from school. Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 must stay home and may not come to school (per 25 Tex. Admin. Code § 97.7.). Students or staff should stay home if they have a fever greater than 100°F, sore throat, cough, body aches, vomiting, or diarrhea. Like with any illness, students may not return to school if they have a fever of 100.0 or above. If your child is taking medication to control their fever, they must stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication. If your child is absent for any reason, it is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to notify the child’s school. Because virtual learning is not an option, it is critical to make arrangements to make up any missed assignments.

#2 Parents, did you know that you can see the vaccinations we have on file through Skyward? Just click on the "health info" tab to find out what we have on file. Remember, school vaccination rules are in effect for the 2021-2022 school year. Students should be up-to-date, in the process of receiving vaccines, or have a valid exemption on file when school starts. Parents should forward the vaccine record to the campus nurse so that they can update their files. Should you have any questions please contact the nurse at your child’s campus.

💡 Please share your ideas about how $4.9 million in ESSER funding should be used to benefit Snyder ISD students. We are collecting community feedback through the survey linked below. This survey takes about 5 minutes to complete, and your feedback will play a vital role in our planning. Therefore, please complete this survey before Wednesday, May 26, 2021. ➡️ Survey link: https://forms.gle/6SA2dZoch9H5B3kQ6 What is ESSER? Congress has set aside approximately $11.2 Billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER Fund). These grants will be awarded to provide schools with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had and continues to have on elementary and secondary schools across the Nation.

Another round of severe weather is predicted this evening; therefore, we are postponing tonight's Eligibility Forms meeting. However, SISD Athletic Trainer, Alex Marsh, has created a helpful video that will walk you through creating an account to complete the required paperwork. We encourage you to complete this step and schedule your child's physical ASAP. Your child may not participate until these tasks are completed. Here is the link to the video: https://youtu.be/RhaBiwEnNxE

As we come to the end of Teacher Appreciation Week I am compelled to proclaim that every day should be “Teacher Appreciation Day”! As I have said many times before, short of the clergy there is not a more honorable profession than being a teacher. Every day teachers inspire students, change lives and truly shape the world. Our teachers do so much more than just teach reading, writing, and arithmetic; they also deal with countless issues that students bring with them to school each and every day. Snyder ISD is blessed to have amazing teachers, so on this last day of Teacher Appreciation Week, I say THANK YOU! Sincerely, Eddie Bland, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools, Snyder ISD

The first round of STAAR testing begins tomorrow! Fourth grade students and Snyder High School English 1 and English 2 students will test this week. Tue 4/27 • STAAR: English 1 Tue 4/27 • STAAR: 4th Grade Writing Thu 4/29 • STAAR: English 2 Here are a few last-minute reminders: 1. Go to bed at a reasonable time. (10 hours of sleep is optimal.) 1. Eat a good breakfast (with protein if possible). Arrive early if you plan to eat breakfast at school. 2. Be to school early to have plenty of time to get ready for testing. We start testing at 8:00 am. 3. Students will need their laptops FULLY charged! This is important so that they don't have to worry about running out of battery during the test. The teachers only have a certain amount of outlets and we want students to be sitting in their optimal spot to be successful. 4. Encourage your child and tell them to do their best. They have been working very hard and we are proud of them! Parents have also been sent specific information from their school principals through ParentSquare. To view the complete SISD STAAR testing schedule, visit our website www.snyderisd.net or click on the "events" icon in your ParentSquare app. Specific test days for third-grade students will be announced by your child's teacher. At Snyder Junior High School students have several electives to choose from depending on their interest. Art & Design teacher, Ms. Rodriguez, always finds way to blend theory and technique with fun! Here’s what she had to say about this project: “This was such a fun project to do with my students and they loved it! The Wallpaper Design Project is an individual assignment focused on Illustration. The students learned and practiced Illustration techniques such as adding emphasis to line to turn their drawings into an illustration. In this project, The Elements of Art and Principles of Design were combined to create a pattern that keeps on going just like wallpaper. The students worked diligently for two weeks to create their perfect wallpaper design.” Each design is made up of 16 different pieces-collaboration and creativity meet!

In spite of the challenges of teaching during a pandemic, educators have demonstrated resiliency and perseverance to find creative solutions for the benefit of our students. We are grateful to ALL of our staff for their hard work this year. We hope you will take a moment to thank them too. Recently, Snyder Junior High recognized a few of our educators for going above and beyond by saying, “You’re all that and a bag of chips!” We hope they can find time to kick back and relax for a few minutes with a bag of chips and a Sonic drink. 😊 Snyder Junior High School: Ben McQuirk Cynthia Adams Brenda Tubbs Heather Curtis
