Since 2022, the district has received questions from parents and staff about the possibility of a four-day week school calendar. This week, Superintendent Bob Rauch asked the District Education Improvement Committee (comprised of teachers, parents, and community members) and the Snyder ISD Board of Trustees if the possibility of a 4-day week was worth exploring. Based on their feedback, we will begin researching the pros and cons of implementing a 4-day school week at Snyder ISD.
The motivations for a potential 4-day school week include:
recruiting and retaining quality staff
improved attendance during the four school days
time for staff collaboration in preparing for high-quality instruction
increased quality time for families
We will begin our research by surveying Snyder ISD parents, students, and staff; be on the lookout for a survey coming in the next few weeks. Our research will continue through discussion groups with area churches, childcare facilities, organizations and businesses. We will also consult with and research other schools that have implemented similar programs.
We know there will be a wide variety of opinions and we have many more questions than answers at this time. Rest assured, we will provide multiple avenues to listen and understand your ideas, question, and concerns.
