2018 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients

Since 2010, SHS Hall of Honor selection committee has chosen someone to be recognized for their support of SHS athletics, whether it’s through their business or individual efforts.

The HOH committee is proud to recognize this year’s HOH Lifetime Achievement Award Winners, Cloyce and Anita Talbott.

The Talbott’s are graduates of Texas Tech University and long-time Snyder residents and supporters. For many years, they have contributed their time, effort and resources to our SHS athletic programs. They have given back to this community in a way that has helped make Snyder a great place to live and a community we can all be proud of. We cannot thank the Talbott’s enough for their continued investment in the young people of this community.

Tommy Doyle

2017 Lifetime Achievement Award

Tommy graduated from Lamesa High School where he participated and lettered in football, basketball and track and was a member of the 1961 State basketball championship team. Tommy played football at Texas Tech as a tight end from 1961 to 1964 under head coach J.T. King. He held the Texas Tech record for most touchdown passes caught (3) in a single game that lasted until 2000.

In 1976, Tommy was hired at Snyder High School as a varsity assistant coach under head coach Mike Jenkins until 1981. Tommy got out of coaching for a short period of time until he returned to teaching and coaching in 1985 under head coach Dennis Tomlinson. He coached under head Coach David Baugh in 1989 and finished out his coaching career under Chad Rogers until his retirement in 2008.

Tommy remains and active supporter of Snyder athletics and is proud to have called Snyder 'home' for over 41 years.

Rhonda Ward

2016 Lifetime Achievement Award

Rhonda Ward has been the Snyder High School Athletic Secretary for 15 years.

She started work with Snyder ISD in 1998 as the After School Program Supervisor. During that time and while she was the Athletic Secretary, she was the Snyder High School cheerleader sponsor for 12 years.

Besides the athletic secretary duties of purchasing and travel for all of the coaches, coordinating game workers for all of the home contests and all play-off games at Snyder ISD facilities; she is a big help to all the sports and booster clubs by selling merchandise and fundraising tickets out of her office.

One of Rhonda's greatest impacts on Snyder ISD is coordinating the annual "Pink Out" games to bring awareness to breast cancer.

Rhonda has been married to her husband Leon for 39 years. She has two children that graduated from Snyder High School.

Gary Bouher

2015 Lifetime Achievement Award

Gary Bouher was employed at Snyder ISD for almost 18 years. His official title was maintenance engineer, in charge of the boy's athletic facilities.

Gary is a multi-talented man. What makes Gary so special is the PRIDE he took in his job and everything he did. Gary took ownership of "his" facilities and made sure everything was in working order. He was such a problem solver; he earned the nickname "Gary the Genius". He could fix or repair anything. Gary would do anything for anybody. The coaches and staff never had to worry about anything that Gary was in charge of.

Gary was loved and respected by everyone for his commitment to his friends and Snyder ISD. He is a man to look up to and a great mentor for all.

Dr. James Burleson

2014 Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. James Burleson is a 1977 graduate of the UT Medical Branch - Galveston.

He started his practice in Dumas, Texas in 1977. Dr. Burleson and his family moved to Snyder in 1981 to set up his private practice.

Dr. Burleson has been the Tiger Varsity football team physician since 1985 and has watched the Tigers from the sideline through all types of weather in order to be available for injured players within minutes of their injury.

Steve Krueger

2013 Lifetime Achievement Award

Steve Krueger never dreamed of becoming the athletic trainer at Snyder High School,but it was meant to be.

Krueger, as his friends and students call him, began his 27th year with Snyder ISD during the 2013-2014 school year.

He began his career as a student trainer at an Austin Middle School. His father was a member of the U.S Air Force and moved the family to Clovis, NM.

Krueger graduated from high school in Hawaii, but returned to Clovis to attend Eastern New Mexico University where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic
training and health. He also earned a master's degree in physical education and education administration at ENMU.

He became a graduate assistant before becoming an assistant principal at a Christian school where he also served as a trainer.

Krueger then moved to Snyder, where he continues to train student trainers to tape athletes and where he watches over all the athletic programs as the trainer.

He and his wife, Kim, have 2 children, Kristin and Luke.

Dr. James R."Ronny" Collins

2012 Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. James R. ”Ronny” Collins served as Superintendent of the Snyder ISD from 2003 to 2008. He was an ex-officio member of the committee that started the Hall of Honor in 2004.

He attended high school in Joshua, Texas where he was an all-district athlete in 3 sports, graduating from there in 1972. During his college years at Tarleton State University, Dr. Collins focused on the sport of rodeo where he worked as a professional rodeo clown/bullfighter.

After college, he entered the field of education where he has served for the past 34 years. The last 22 years were as Superintendent of Schools in Wellington, Jacksboro, Snyder and Mineral Wells. Dr. Collins retired at the end of the 2011-12 school year.

Dr. Collins is an avid photographer and photographed many Snyder Tiger athletic events during his 5 years in Snyder. His photography has ranged from high school sports to Big 12 football and has been used by several newspapers over the years.

While at Snyder, he photographed the 2008 State Championship Baseball game, the State Semi–Finals Football games in 2004 and 2007, the girls 2006 Regional Basketball Finals, and State Championship performances at the State Track Meet in 2008.

Don West

2011 Lifetime Achievement Award

Don West played football for 3 years under Coach Gordon Wood at Stamford High School. He played on the 1952 and 1953 teams which both reached the state quarter finals. Don graduated from Stamford with the class of 1955.

He then began a career of retail management as a manager trainee for Perry Brothers, Inc. He served as a retail store manager for Perry's Variety Stores for 20 years. After leaving Perry's, Don purchased Hugh Boren Insurance Agency and ran it for 28 years. He retired in 2006.

Don has been a resident of Snyder for 37 years. He was instrumental in forming the Snyder Athletic Hall of Honor and was a charter member of the H of H committee which was formed in 2004. Don is very passionate about the Hall of Honor and continues to be active and to lead the ticket sales and promotes business participation annually to support the Snyder Athletic Hall of Honor Banquet

Don also serves on the Grant Teaff Character Scholarship Award Fund Committee.

Glenn Patterson

2010 Lifetime Achievement Award

A long time Tiger supporter, Glenn Patterson is the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Patterson was a co-founder of Patterson Drilling Company in 1978, which became Patterson-UTI Energy, Inc in 2001. Patterson UTI is North America's second largest onshore contract drilling company.

Patterson earned a business degree from Angelo State University in 1970. He served as president of the company he co-founded until his retirement in 2006.

He has been an active supporter of Snyder High School Athletics through the years.
