The SHS Speech and Debate team competed at Lubbock High School this past Saturday. Yasmin Thamez placed second in Lincoln-Douglas debate, Carson Posey advanced to finals in Congress, and Allison Alanis advanced to semi-finals in Prose.
The team also hosted a tournament here in Snyder last weekend. The tournament brought in over 110 competitors from 16 schools across the state. The tournament consisted of 14 different events, 13 of which were qualifying events for the Texas Forensics Association State Tournament. Students earn points toward qualifying for this state tournament throughout the year by competing at tournaments that offer qualifying events.
"The team did a great job hosting our tournament," Speech and Debate coach Adalberto Jaimes said. "Our booster club was also a huge help! We couldn't have run such a successful tournament without everyone who helped and volunteered their time. I'm looking forward to hosting again next year and officially reestablishing an annual tournament in Snyder."
