Dear Snyder ISD families,
Unfortunately, there was another situation at Snyder Junior High where a student made a verbal threat of violence toward another student. Upon receiving the report, the administration immediately followed protocol, which included conducting a search (no weapon was found) and contacting the Snyder Police Department. This behavior is part of a concerning pattern. Whether such comments were intended as a joke, sarcasm, or made in anger, we want to make it clear that we have zero tolerance for any threats of violence. As we emphasized yesterday, any student who makes such threats will face serious consequences in accordance with district policy and the law.
Additional Rumors Circulating
Additionally, rumors are circulating regarding social media posts and alleged threats on Monday and Tuesday at Snyder Junior High. Junior high school administrators, counselors, and local law enforcement have been on site, speaking with students individually to gather information, offer reassurance, and thoroughly investigate all reports to ensure there are no unaddressed concerns.
It’s becoming clear that much of the information shared between students is a different version of the same story. As information spreads from person to person, key details can change, leading to further confusion. We are finding that students are emailing or texting their parents with what they are hearing, only causing more alarm. We encourage our community to be mindful of this and to rely on official communications from the district for accurate updates. If you have concerns or questions, please contact the school directly.
What are the consequences?
We have also received questions from parents about how credible threats are determined and the consequences for students who make threats. While we cannot disclose the disciplinary actions taken against particular students, we follow a clearly defined threat assessment process. This process involves close collaboration with local law enforcement to evaluate each situation and determine the appropriate outcome. Consequences for making threats of violence may include out-of-school suspension (OSS), placement in the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP), expulsion, and/or juvenile intake/detainment by law enforcement. This can lead to potential charges ranging from a misdemeanor to a felony, depending on the nature of the threat.
