SNYDER, Texas—Snyder ISD had the privilege of hosting instructional rounds last week in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The rounds highlighted student engagement, a rigorous curriculum, and a community-wide commitment to student success.
TEA officials who visited Snyder ISD campuses included Deputy Commissioner for the Office of School Programs Shannon Trejo, Associate Commissioner of Instructional Strategy Todd Davis, and Associate Commissioner of Curriculum and Instruction Nick Keith. Throughout their visit, officials observed classroom instruction at Snyder Primary, Intermediate, and Junior High campuses and noted the high levels of student engagement, critical thinking, and enthusiasm.
Associate Commissioner Todd Davis praised Snyder ISD’s commitment, saying, “The minute we got here we could tell from the administration and from the board members that they were dedicated to doing what's right for kids. We saw teachers using curriculum that was of high rigor but also ensuring students got all the supports they need to be successful.” Davis continued, “We saw students that were fully engaged, so well-behaved, doing hard work, doing hard things, while being supported and loved in the process.”
Deputy Commissioner Shannon Trejo echoed these sentiments, saying, “I saw some amazing classroom instruction, particularly with the use of high-quality instructional materials. Kids were excited and engaged in high-level reading and mathematics. I got to see teachers talking and dialoguing about lessons that contained high rigor and support for kids.” She also emphasized how inspiring it was to hear directly from students about their educational experiences.
In addition to classroom visits, TEA officials participated in panel discussions with students and teachers. Their honest and insightful feedback highlighted the exceptional learning occurring across the district and provided valuable perspectives on how Snyder ISD and Texas public schools can foster an environment where every student thrives.
Associate Commissioner Nick Keith highlighted his observations about the district’s strong sense of community and high standards, sharing, “Snyder ISD has done an incredible job over the last few years of implementing new rigorous materials to make sure kids are on the right track to graduate college and career ready. Keith elaborated, “Every classroom that we went into, we saw teachers with high expectations. We saw every student engaged in the work that they're supposed to be doing to reach grade-level achievement…From the panel, it is clear that your kids know it. They know they're in a great place; they know that you're putting them in a place to be successful.”
Officials also had the privilege of seeing high school students showcase their talents and skills beyond the classroom. From the Greenhouse program providing beautiful plants to Culinary Arts students crafting a delicious lemon raspberry cake to Ride the Lightning energizing the lunch crowd with their performance, it was a true testament to the diverse and vibrant learning experiences at Snyder ISD.
Snyder ISD thanks the Texas Education Agency representatives for visiting and was proud to showcase the continuous dedication of students, educators, and staff.
