Snyder Independent School District is proud to announce the hiring of Jeremy Matus as the new Head Coach of the Snyder High School Boys' Basketball program. A seasoned educator and coach with over 20 years of experience, Coach Matus brings a proven record of building strong athletic programs and mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court. In addition to his coaching expertise, Coach Matus holds a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a minor in History from Texas Tech University.

“Coach Matus is known for his energy, leadership, and passion for developing student-athletes,” said Coach Gonzales, Snyder ISD Athletic Director.  “We are building a championship culture, and we are excited to welcome someone with a shared vision to the program.” His coaching philosophy centers on building character, fostering discipline, and promoting a competitive team culture.  Coach Matus has earned accolades such as District 5-3A Coaching Staff of the Year while coaching athletes to multiple area and regional appearances in basketball and track.

Coach Matus most recently served as the Head Boys' Basketball Coach at Post High School, where he led the team to the playoffs for four consecutive seasons while overseeing the program from grades 7 through 12. His coaching career also includes successful stints at Kermit ISD and Vernon ISD, where he coached both boys' and girls' basketball, along with experience in football, baseball, and track.

“What impressed me about Coach Matus is his dedication to putting students first and his commitment to building strong relationships,” said Aleida Juarez, Principal of Snyder High School

"I’m incredibly honored and excited to take over as the head boys' basketball coach at Snyder. This is a community that values hard work, pride, and tradition, and I’m ready to build on that foundation,” said Coach Matus.  “I look forward to working with our student-athletes to not only grow their skills on the court, but also help them develop as leaders off the court. It’s a great day to be a Snyder Tiger!"

Coach Matus and his wife Stevie, who will also join Snyder ISD as an educator and a coach, have three children who are active in school and sports. He shared, “My family and I are thrilled to be joining the Snyder community—we can already feel the warmth and support, and we’re excited to call this home.”

Snyder ISD welcomes Coach Matus and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on student success both in the classroom and on the court.
