Cold weather calls for indoor recess in Mrs. Solis' classroom!

We want to inform you of an incident at Snyder Intermediate School today. A teacher found what was initially thought to be a gun in a student’s desk. The teacher contacted the School Resource Officer and an administrator, who investigated the situation immediately. After examination, it was found to be a toy gun. No students were in danger and no threats were made.
While we are relieved this was not a real firearm, it serves as an important reminder of the times we live in. Toy guns can look real. Not only can they cause panic, they can put the person holding the “toy” in danger if it is perceived to be a real firearm.
We take all safety concerns seriously and will respond swiftly. Being vigilant and keeping communication lines open will help keep our schools safe.

Congratulations to the newly “tapped” students for the SJH National Junior Honor Society! Selection was based on academic standing and careful consideration of each child's commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, character, and ctizenship.

What do some teachers think about the MAP test? Mrs. Lewis, a 5th-grade teacher at Snyder Intermediate School, said, "The MAP test is a wonderful tool because it helps the teacher know exactly where the student is struggling. The test adapts to the student, so if the student gets a question incorrect, the questions will change to that student's reading level. If a student gets a question correct, the questions will become more difficult, thus challenging the student."
MAP results tell teachers what skills students already know, what skills they are ready to master, and what skills they’re ready to start learning. Since the MAP test has been given for several years, it also helps evaluate growth over time.

MAP testing is this week throughout the district. You've heard about it, but what does MAP testing look like? Here's a peek into a first grade classroom and some comments from Mrs. Thamez. "We discussed our goal for the test and why it’s important to do our best, before we began." Since this is an adaptive test, it adjusts to each student's individualized goals. Mrs. Thamez continued, "Every student that meets their goal will get to eat in the classroom with me!"

Mrs. Leija's Dual-language students paired up to read, reflect, and write about the contributions Martin Luther King Jr. made to our society. In the dual language program, students often work in pairs, each using a different colored pencil to show their work and formulate responses in both English and Spanish.

District play continues at HOME for the Tigers! See you in the stands!

Last week, we celebrated Ava Aviles' decision to continue her education and athletic career at Howard Payne University. Here is what Coach Cummings had to say at the ceremony, "Ava is a 4-year Varsity Starter for the Snyder Lady Tigers Softball Program. Her passion for the sport of softball is undeniable not only in her dedication to her own performance, but also in her desire to teach, coach, and encourage those around her, especially the young girls involved in the Snyder Fastpitch League. Even when she’s not in season, she’s often found at the softball fields volunteering during fastpitch league or coaching the next generation on pitching and all things softball. Ava is a disciplined leader and a talented player who continues to work on her own personal development by attending camps, workshops, and working with various coaches on different aspects of her game. I say all of this not just to brag on what Ava does outside of the Lady Tigers softball program, but to show all of you here what it takes to be an elite player of the Lady Tigers, of the Snyder league, of our district, and within our region. The achievements that Ava has stacked up over the years did not come easily. They took a lot of focus, dedication, and determination on her part. She sacrificed free time to put in the work and Ava, I am so proud of you and your work ethic."
Congratulations Ava!

Two Snyder Tigers were recognized at the 33 Lead Foundation Banquet. Please join us in congratulating Easton Stewart and Jonathan Barrow!
EASTON STEWART - 33 Lead Scholastic Football Player of the Year
Coach Wood said, “Easton naturally moves into a leadership position every time he is a part of because he is driven to be excellent. He is highly regarded by the administration and his peers. He also volunteers his time and runs a small lawn business with his brother. He has strong moral character and demonstrates integrity, having a fun-loving personality and being a fierce competitor. He has always had that correct amount of “swag” that the best leaders often possess. I coach with his dad, who is also his head baseball coach, so it has been extremely special to watch their bond and experiences throughout his career and successes. Love ya E. Proud of you!”
JONATHAN BARROW - Passionate Fan Award
Coach Wood said, “Jonathan Barrow is wheelchair-bound due to cerebral palsy. His parents, Suzanne and Johnny, take care of him every day, and they are the sweetest people you will ever meet. Jonathan has always done a "coach's show" on Snyder Tiger Gameday mornings. When I arrived in Snyder a few years back, the radio station had just lost its funding for this, so we thought of a way to keep it going, and we have since done it on Facebook Live every Friday of the season at 9 am - "Gameday FB Live with Jonathan Barrow". He adores it, and looks forward to it all week. So do I. Suzanne hosts it for us, and Jonathan always loves the end when I get their trivia question wrong. He is sure to give us a good laugh. He has even scored a touchdown for the Tigers a couple of times. We all call Johnathan “Snyder's Number 1 Fan.” He is a member of the Lion's Club and an active member at his church every Wednesday and Sunday. You won’t find a person with a bigger faith. He loves big and puts happiness into perspective whenever you think you deserve a pity party. His motto in life is: I have cerebral palsy, what is your problem? He is one of my best friends; love ya, buddy!”

Mrs. Arellano and her kindergarten class rang in the New Year and the new semester yesterday! We hope everyone had a great first day back at school!

Today is School Resource Officer Appreciation Day! Please join us in thanking Officer Rackley and Officer Cartner for all they do. We also want to recognize Zach Rollins, Snyder ISD Director of Safety and Security. This team works daily to keep our staff and students safe and develop meaningful relationships with our school community.
